Standard Fridge Freezers: 60cm

A 60cm freestanding fridge freezer is the default in most kitchens. Available in lots of colours, brands, and split options: 60/40 gives more fridge space, 50/50 gives the freezer equal room for batch cooking.

What to look for

Frost Free

The freezer defrosts itself, so ice never builds up and you never need to empty your freezer and chip away at the build up.

Split

How the space divides between fridge and freezer. 60/40 means roughly 60% of the internal space is for the fridge and 40% is for the freezer.

Reversible Doors

The door can be rehung to open from either side so it works for your space, no matter where you put it.

What It Costs to Run

A fridge freezer never switches off so energy efficiency is important to save you money. Running the least efficient costs about €62 a year more than the most efficient, at 38c per kWh1.

We’re always improving our delivery times, so for the most up to date delivery estimate make sure to check the product pages. When your new fridge freezer arrives we take the old one away free of charge for WEEE recycling: just have it disconnected, defrosted and ready to go. Our drivers can’t uninstall built-in models, you’ll need to have that done separately.

What to Consider When Buying a Fridge Freezer

The big deciding factor when buying a new fridge freezer is the space you have for it – you should always measure the gap itself rather than the old machine. Be sure to check the width of your hall and tight corners too to make sure your new appliance will make it to your kitchen!

Once you have the size figured out, the next big decision is the brand you go for. Belling and Beko have a lot of narrow and standard options, Hoover and Hisense are strongest around the standard 60cm size, and Bosch goes from a standard 60cm machine up to the tall built-in and American-style models.

If the gap is under 60cm, the slim fridge freezers are the place to start. The frost free fridge freezers look after the defrosting themselves, and if you’d rather see everything together, the full freestanding range covers everything that isn’t built-in.

FAQs

Measure the width of the space first: slim models run from 44cm to 56cm, standard machines are 60cm, and the larger models are 70cm or more, up to American style. Then look at the split between fridge and freezer. A 60/40 favours fresh food, while a 50/50 gives the freezer equal room, which suits anyone who batch cooks or shops less often.

A frost free freezer defrosts itself automatically, so ice never builds up on the walls and you never have to empty it out to chip it clear. Most of the fridge freezers we stock are frost free. The full list is under frost free fridge freezers.

It runs around the clock, so efficiency matters more here than on most appliances. Among the models we stock that publish an EU energy label figure, annual use runs from about 135 kWh to just under 300 kWh. At the standard rate of 38c per kWh (Electric Ireland, July 2026), that works out between roughly €51 and €113 a year.

Only if the model is rated for it. Standard fridge freezers are designed for indoor temperatures, and a cold outbuilding in winter can stop the thermostat cycling properly. Some models we stock are rated as suitable for outbuildings, so check the specification on the product page, or ask in one of our stores before you buy.

Yes. We collect your old large appliance free of charge when we deliver the new one. Have it disconnected, defrosted and ready for the driver at the time of delivery. Drivers can’t remove appliances from built-in units, so an integrated model needs to be out of its housing before they arrive.
